We are able to give support and advice on all Dry Eye matters, but what is Dry Eye?

Dry Eye means that your eyes may not be making enough tears, the tears you are making are of poor quality or evaporate faster than they should. The normal function of tears is to keep the surface of the eye hydrated and lubricated so any reduction in their quality can produce a gritty, burning sensation of the eyes that can sometimes disturb vision

What are the symptoms?

The symptoms can include:

Dryness

Excessive watering

Gritty feeling/foreign body sensations

Blurring of vision

Redness

Tired eyes

Irritation from wind/smoke

The Right Solution For Your Eyes

The surface of the eye is constantly exposed to the elements, meaning they can be easily irritated by dust or chemicals in the air

Your eyes need constant lubrication to clean them and prevent irritation. This is provided by a film of tears. While you may only associate tears with crying, in fact a film of tears is being constantly produced by your eyes. This spreads over the surface of your eye when you blink, removing tiny specks of dirt. So, it’s hardly surprising that if you don’t blink or you aren’t producing enough tears, your eyes feel dry

It's natural to assume that watery eyes are the result of too much tear production. In fact, perhaps bizarrely, it’s often caused by dry eye – which means that eye lubricants can often be the solution to watery as well as dry eye

How can we help? The treatment for dry or watery eyes very much depends on the cause and the symptoms you’re having; we will diagnose and treat the symptoms with our range of dry eye products and tailored advice

Which Vitamins and Minerals are beneficial for eye health?

Certain nutrients found in our diet and in supplements have been shown to benefit our eye health. For example, protein-rich foods, such as red meat and eggs, contain Vitamin D; Oily fish contains high levels of omega-3 fatty acids; citrus fruits provide antioxidants; dark green leafy vegetables give us Lutein and Zeaxanthin; and grapes contain Resveratrol

Vitamin D reduces inflammation and stops the growth of new blood vessels, helping to prevent tumours.

Higher intake of Omega-3 is associated with a reduced risk of AMD and Cataract

Lutein and Zeaxanthin can improve vision in AMD.

Resveratrol has been shown to protect retinal cells and help prevent cell and tissue damage
